Current World No. 64, Fognini was champion at Los Cabos in 2018
The Italian is married to former tennis player Flavia Penetta and has three children.
Mexico City, June the 18th, 2022.- Born on the 24th of May, 1987 in San Remo, Italy.
Fabio Fognini is known to never have been afraid to speak his mind, but it
s also rarely revealed whats behind his personality, besides the obvious (a great tennis player), making it impossible for him to go unnoticed on any match.
Holding a racket since he was 4 years old, like many Italians, his first passion was with soccer, even confessing that there are many times when he prefers to kick the ball even though he knows that tennis has given him everything , quoting his very own words, “Tennis is my profession a job for me, not a sport”.
“Fogna”, as he is nicknamed, can freely speak his mind and my also seem very controversial with some of his remarks or comments, despite some topics.
His laidback personality can be seen in and off the courts, even one could easily say that he doesn`t require much effort to get noticed.
Making the leap to professional in 2004 at the age of 17. The first of his titles would come in 2013. Few know that at 18 he suffered severe wrist pains, so a doctor told him that surgery with a (50-50) chance of full recovery was his best option if he wanted to play again. Despite the odds and almost two decades later he hasn`t had to go under any medical procedure.
In 2016 he married former Top 10 (WTPA) tennis player, Flavia Penetta, winner of the 2015 US Open, having three kids; Federico, Farah and Flaminia.
In 2019 he became the first Italian to win a Masters 1000, (Monte Carlo), an achievment that made him the oldest player to enter the Top 10 at age 32. His highest ATP ranking has been No. 9, (securing it on July 2019) and also his latest title so far.
Eight of his last 9 titles have been on clay, a surface on which his style of playing stands out nicely. Therefore having his best performance in Roland Garros, reaching quarterfinals in 2011.
This year at Indian Wells he became the Italian with the most recorded wins in tour history, surpassing Adriano Panatta.
Fabio Fognini has shared that he is now focused on enjoying the last years of his career and that he`s happy.
