Mexico City, July 4, 2023.- The Mifel Tennis Open by Telcel Oppo 2023 has designed, for its seventh edition, its best roster of players by summoning six of the top 20 tennis players in the world, who will play from July 31 to August 5 at the Cabo Sports Complex (CSC).
Previously five players had already been confirmed, the Greek Stefanos Tsitsipas (No.5), the Russian Karen Khachanov (No.11), the British Cameron Norrie (No.13), champion in 2021 and finalist in 2022; in addition to the champion of Acapulco 2023, the Australian Alex de Miñaur (No.16), and the American Tommy Paul (No. 17).
Now added are Croatian world No.14 Borna Coric and 2021 doubles champion, veteran John Isner. In addition to Portugal’s Nuno Borges (No.69) and Germany’s Dominik Koepker “We have a very complete draw for a tournament that has been growing and consolidating every year,” explained tournament director José Antonio Fernández.
“Undoubtedly these players, who have stood out and climbed positions in recent months at the top of the ATP ranking, give a great boost to the tournament and shape what we consider, so far, the best draw of the tournament. We have had a great acceptance in the northern part of Mexico and also in the southern part of the United States,” he added.
This year there are several debutants in the ATP 250, including Tsitsipas, a favorite of the Mexican fans, as well as Khachanov and Paul. Norrie will be looking for his second title in Los Cabos, after winning the fifth edition, and de Miñaur will be looking for the Mexican double after winning the title in Acapulco at the beginning of the year against Tommy Paul. Borna Coric boasts three titles on three different surfaces and as for Mexican players, the outstanding junior Rodrigo Pachecho will receive a wildcard to play in the main draw.
The Mifel Tennis Open by Telcel Oppo 2023, the best tournament of the category in Latin America, will have a main singles draw of 28 players and 16 doubles pairs. The seventh edition will be the last time the tournament will be held in the summer, as by 2024, it will be held in the eighth week of the calendar, prior to the Abierto Mexicano Telcel presented by HSBC in Acapulco.
Mexico will have two ATP tournaments, a 250 and a 500 in consecutive weeks, thanks to the work, organization and experience of Mextenis. The organizers highlighted that the tournament and the incredible facilities are ready to receive more than 30,000 fans during the week of the tournament.
