Chilean Nicolas Jarry to play the Tennis Open by Telcel Oppo in Los Cabos
- He is the second highest ranked Latin American tennis player in the ATP ranking as No. 26 in the world.
Mexico City, July 17, 2023. – Chilean Nicolás Jarry will reach the main draw of the Mifel Tennis Open by Telcel Oppo de Los Cabos to be played from July 31 to August 5 at the Cabo Sports Complex (CSC) thanks to one of the three wild cards given by the tournament.
Jarry is one of the Latin American players who has been a sensation in this part of the season along with Argentine Franciso Cerúndolo (No. 20). It usually happens that players from the region almost automatically become favorites of the Mexican fans.
The Chilean started the year at number 152 and at the end of February and beginning of March he climbed 100 places after reaching the semifinals of the ATP 500 in Rio de Janeiro, where he lost to Spaniard Carlos Alcaraz, and later won the ATP 250 in Chile to reach number 52 in the world ranking.
His rapid ascent in just a few months is due to his solid tennis on clay that has translated into titles, in addition to the fact that he managed to advance over his best results in the last three Grand Slams. At the French Open he reached the round of 16 and at Wimbledon he reached the third round, which has taken him to a career-best ranking of No. 26.
This will be the first foray of Jarry, 27 years old, in a tournament of this category in Mexico. His goal will be to challenge the six star players announced two weeks ago.
Greek Stefanos Tsitsipas (No.5), Russian Karen Khachanov (No.11), British Cameron Norrie (No.13), champion in 2021 and finalist in 2022; American Tommy Paul (No. 14), Croatian Borna Coric (No.15) and Acapulco 2023 champion, Australian Alex de Miñaur (No.18).
Jarry, a professional since 2014, has three titles in his career, all on clay, in Bastad 2019 and Geneva and Santiago de Chile this 2023.
