Los Cabos, July 27, 2027.—The new court at the Cabo Sports Complex, where the tenth edition of the Mifel Tennis Open by Telcel OPPO is taking place this week, is an architectural project that posed a huge challenge for Mextenis, as it was designed to respect the area’s desert landscape—a hallmark of the tournament.
“The entire architectural project was developed in-house at Mextenis, and we designed it to respect the landscape. It was quite a challenge because the topography in this area is complicated,” Adriana Acuña, Mextenis’s director of infrastructure, explained to the media.
“We began planning a year ago, and we’re proud to be here now on this new court,” he added.
The court’s inauguration was attended by Renata Burillo, chair of the Board of Directors of Grupo Pegaso; Álvaro Falla, CEO of Mextenis; and Geoffrey Fernández, tournament director; as well as ATP supervisor Nacho Forcadell.
The new Court 1 was built next to the practice courts, and its stands can accommodate 300 people.
Acuña explained that the ATP has very specific guidelines that must be followed when constructing a tennis court.
“A tennis court needs a very solid foundation to meet the demands of the sport—for example, the ball’s bounce—and the different layers that make up the foundation: the subbase and the clay.”
So, “everything has to be meticulously precise down to the millimeter in terms of measurements, the composition of the clay, its compaction, the compaction of the asphalt, and the application of the surface coating.”
In addition to the work on the court itself, lighting was another important consideration, so Mextenis worked closely with a U.S. company that is already familiar with the technical lighting requirements for a professional tennis court.
