Los Cabos, July 28, 2026, American Michael Zheng defeated seventh-seeded Spaniard Martín Landaluce 6-4, 6-3 as the first round of the 10th edition of the Mifel Tennis Open by Telcel OPPO, being played this week at the Cabo Sports Complex, came to a close.
Zheng (No. 118) prevailed over Landaluce (No. 63) in a match that lasted one hour and 41 minutes.
On the second day of play, two Australians advanced: James Duckworth and Edward Winter, who entered the main draw as a lucky loser. Duckworth defeated American Aidan Mayo 4-6, 6-3, 6-4, and Winter eliminated 17-year-old Frenchman Moise Kouame 6-1, 6-4, who had received a wild card into the ATP 250 tournament.
Meanwhile, two French players, Arthur Gea and Corentin Moutet, recorded a win and a loss, respectively. Gea defeated South Korea’s Soon Woo Kwon 6-4, 6-7, 6-2, and Moutet lost to American Jenson Brooksby 6-4, 6-4.
In the doubles tournament, Australians Finn Reynolds and James Watt defeated Americans Robert Galloway and Evan King 4-6, 6-3, 10-8 to advance to the second round.
Meanwhile, American Benjamin Kittay and Ray Ho of Chinese Taipei defeated Jean Julien Rojer of the Netherlands and American Theodore Winegar 7-6(5), 4-6, 10-5.
Americans Ryan Seggerman and Patrik Trhac defeated Mexico’s Alex Hernández and Colombia’s Nicolás Mejía 7-5, 6-3, while Ecuador’s Gonzalo Escobar and Niki Kaliyanda Poonacha of India defeated American Rajeev Ram and Britain’s Joe Salisbury 6-3, 6-4.
The top four seeds take the court
On Wednesday, in the second round, the top four seeds—who had byes in the first round—will take the court.
The top-ranked player, Jiri Lehecka of the Czech Republic, will face Chak Lam Coleman Wong of Hong Kong; the second seed, Italian Luciano Darderi, will take on fellow Czech Dalibor Svrcina, who defeated Australian Adam Walton in three sets; meanwhile, the third seed, Argentine Francisco Cerúndolo, will face American Tristan Boyer, and the fourth seed, Karen Khachanov, will take on Australian Bernard Tomic.
In the other four matches, Britain’s Cameron Norrie, the fifth seed, will face Australia’s James Duckworth; Canada’s Denis Shapovalov, the eighth seed, will face Mexico’s Rodrigo Pacheco; Australia’s Edwar Winter will face the United States’ Jenson Brooksby; and France’s Arthur Gea will face the United States’ Michael Zheng.
