- Hong Kong’s Coleman Wong knocked out top seed Lehecka, and Boyer’s withdrawal worked in Cerúndolo’s favor
Los Cabos, July 29, 2026.—Czech player Jiri Lehecka, ranked No. 12 in the world and the top seed at the 10th edition of the Mifel Tennis Open by Telcel OPPO, which is being played this week at the Cabo Sports Complex, was eliminated early from the tournament by Coleman Wong of Hong Kong.
Meanwhile, Argentina’s Francisco Cerúndolo, the third seed, was fortunate that his opponent, American Tristan Boyer, withdrew in the second set—after Boyer had taken the first set—but it was Cerúndolo who advanced following Boyer’s withdrawal.
Coleman defeated Lehecka 1-6, 6-3, 6-4 in a match that lasted one hour and 54 minutes, while Cerúndolo was leading 6-7, 4-3 when his opponent chose to retire.
“The truth is, I was lucky today. I was playing a really bad match—honestly, my tennis was at a very low level. Nothing was going my way, but I was competing, fighting with what I had. But honestly, I was feeling really off with my shots, so it was hard to play,” Cerúndolo said at the post-match press conference.
Fran acknowledged that Boyer “was playing a good match, and beyond that, I had opportunities in the first set that I couldn’t capitalize on (…) It was a shame for him because he was playing a great match; we were right there competing in the second set, and he had to retire—I think due to health issues.”
In Coleman’s case (No. 108), he came back from a set down against Lehecka, who closed out the first set with a decisive 6-1 victory in a half-hour match and seemed to be on his way to victory, but the Hong Kong player fought back and secured a hard-fought win.
Another player to advance was American Jenson Brooksby, who defeated Australian Edward Winter 6-3, 6-4.
On Thursday, Coleman and Brooksby will face off in the quarterfinals, while Cerúndolo will play the winner of the match between Frenchman Arthur Gea and American Michael Zheng.
