Mexico City, June 8. Mexican Rodrigo Pacheco, number 1 in the International Tennis Federation (ITF) junior world ranking, won this Saturday the junior doubles tournament title at the second Grand Slam of the season, Roland Garros.
Pacheco, a player supported by Mextenis, lifted the title along with his Russian partner Yaroslav Denim, who defeated Italians Lorenzo Sciahbasi and Gabriele Vulpitta 6-2, 6-3, to win the title in Paris.
This achievement represented the first Grand Slam for the Mexican, who just turned 18 years old in April. In this way, Pacheco gave Mexico an achievement at world level that is historic in Mexican sport.
Although he had a difficult start, being eliminated in the first round of singles at Roland Garros, Pacheco had a better performance in doubles until he reached the championship.
Two weeks ago, Pacheco, a great promise of Mexican tennis, was installed as number 1 in the junior world ranking of the International Tennis Federation (ITF), an achievement never before reached by a Mexican player.
With his first Grand Slam title, Pacheco added his name to those of other Mexicans who have won a Grand Slam doubles title at the junior level. Previous winners include Leonardo Lavalle at the 1984 US Open, Agustin Moreno at Wimbledon in 1985 and Enrique Abaroa at Roland Garros in 1992.
For the 18-year-old, it was his third Grand Slam tournament, having previously played Roland Garros and Wimbledon in 2022, as well as the Australian Open in 2023.
Two weeks ago Pacheco, who was born on April 25, 2005, reached the top spot in world junior tennis after a brilliant performance at the Bonfiglio Trophy in Milan, Italy, where he won the tournament in singles and doubles.
For the Mexican junior, whom the Mextenis Group has supported in the last two years with invitations to its tournaments in Acapulco and Los Cabos, 2023 has brought him great experience that will serve him well in the professional world.
In February, after the Australian Junior Open, Pacheco played his first professional tournament, the Abierto Mexicano Telcel presented by HSBC, ATP 500 category. In the first round, Pacheco showed his good tennis against the Australian Alex De Miñaur.
In 2022 Pacheco was invited by Mextenis to play the qualy at the Acapulco Open 500 and also received a wilcard to play at the ATP 250 in Los Cabos, which this year became the Mifel Tenis Open by Telcel Oppo and where he is likely to attend.
In addition, at the beginning of April, Pacheco played in singles and doubles in the first edition of the Leon Open presented by Mifel, an ATP 75 Challenger Tour tournament, new property of Mextenis.
