Mexico City, July 10, 2023.- Tommy Paul along with Taylor Fritz, Frances Tiafoe and Sebastian Korda, are the four U.S. tennis players ranked in the Top 25 of the ATP and who have fought in recent years to return prominence to tennis in their country.
With a high-level performance on hard court, the surface of Los Cabos and his favorite, Paul (No. 15) will arrive at the ATP 250 Los Cabos with great chances to stand out in a tournament in which he will make his debut and that in 2019 and 2021 saw his compatriots Taylor Fritz and Brandon Nakashima, respectively, reach the final.
Paul, 26, will face the Mifel Tennis Open by Oppo Telcel in Los Cabos, to be played from July 31 to August 5, with the slogan of raising his hand for American tennis, which for the seventh edition only called to the main draw three players from that nation: Paul himself, veteran John Isner (No.103) and Aleksandar Kovacevic (No.120).
The geographic location of the Los Cabos tournament usually draws the attention of more tennis players from the United States every year, but in its seventh edition representatives from Europe and Latin America have occupied the 19 direct places offered by the tournament.
Tommy Paul, a finalist at the Abierto Mexicano Telcel presented by HSBC in early March, said at that tournament that his main goal for the current season was to break into the Top 10 and win titles and that is what he will try to do at the ATP 250 in Los Cabos.
For Paul and the rest of the tennis players who are close to the Top 10, moving up one position represents an extraordinary achievement, that is why reaching the Top 10 is a goal that few achieve in their career and Tommy is very close to it.
If he reaches the top 10, where his compatriots Taylor Fritz (No. 9) and Frances Tiafoe (No. 10) are already ranked, Paul would help his country’s tennis to make a coup with three Americans in the Top 10, the most by any country in recent years.
In terms of titles won, Paul has won only one so far, in Stockholm in 2021, while in 2023 he has reached the finals in Eastbourne (grass) and Acapulco (hard court), which he lost to Australian Alex de Miñaur.
