Cabo San Lucas, July 31, 2023 – Chileans Nicolás Jarry, Cristian Garín and Tomás Barrios Vera lead the Latin American tennis players who will compete in the Mifel Tennis Open by Telcel Oppo from July 31 to August 5 in Los Cabos.

Jarry (No. 29 ATP) is the second best-ranked Latin American tennis player in the ATP ranking, behind Argentina’s Francisco Cerúndolo (No.21). He is followed by his compatriots Garín (No.101), Barrios Vera (No. 121), Alejandro Tabilo (No.122) and Gonzalo Lama (No.410), who reached the main draw from qualifying.

Along with the three Chileans are Argentinean Thiago Agustin Tirante (No.136) and Brazilian Felipe Meligeni (No.177).

To play in the main draw of the ATP 250 in Los Cabos, Jarry received a wildcard from the organizers after the first one was given to Mexican junior Rodrigo Pacheco, while the third one ended up in the hands of another Mexican, Ernesto Escobedo.

The draw for the main draw produced three duels between Latinos, the match between Jarry and Pacheco, Tabilo against Meligeni and Lama against Tirante, these last two matches will be played this Monday. Meanwhile, Garin will face Croatian Borna Gojo and Barrios Vera will face German Dominik Koepfer. Mexican Escobedo will face Jason Jung, from Chinese Taipei.

Chilean Jarry started the year ranked 152nd and at the end of February and beginning of March he climbed 100 places after reaching the semifinals of the ATP 500 in Rio de Janeiro, where he lost to Spaniard Carlos Alcaraz, and later won the ATP 250 in Chile to reach the 52nd position in the world ranking.

It will be the first incursion of Jarry, 27 years old, in a tournament of this category in Mexico and his objective will be to compete against the six announced star players.

Greek Stefanos Tsitsipas (No.5), British Cameron Norrie (No.13), champion in 2021 and finalist in 2022; American Tommy Paul (No. 14), Croatian Borna Coric (No.15) and Acapulco 2023 champion, Australian Alex de Miñaur (No.17), are the tournament’s top seeds.
