Los Cabos, July 30, 2023.- Mexican Luis Carlos Álvarez was one step away from the surprise of the day at the closing of the qualifying tournament of the Mifel Tennis Open by Telcel Oppo that distributed four tickets to play in the main draw of the tournament.
The youngster lost in three sets by 7-5, 5-7, 6-4 against the Chilean Gonzalo Lama, who with his victory extended to five the number of Chilean representatives that will play in the main draw of the ATP 250 in Los Cabos.
It was a tough test for the Chilean and the Mexican, who played a match that lasted 3.05 hours.
In addition to Lama, his compatriots Nicolás Jarry, Cristian Garín, Tomás Barrios Vera and Alejandro Tabilo will be competing.
Earlier, Tunisian Skander Mansouri beat Abdullah Shelbayh of Jordan 7-6, 6-3. The other two tickets for the main draw were in the hands of Omni Kumar, from the United States, who beat Jason Jung (TPE) and Kazakhstan’s Beibit Zhukayev, who defeated Keegan Smith, from the United States, 6-3, 6-1.

Monday’s first day will feature five singles matches and one doubles match.
The couples’ duel stands out for the participation of the Mexican pair integrated by Ernesto Escobedo and Rodrigo Pacheco, who will face the Venezuelan Luis David Martinez Myneni, from India.
Meanwhile, in singles, the veteran American John Isner will play against the Australian Rinky Hijikata and in a duel between Latin Americans, the Chilean Alejandro Tabilo will face the Brazilian Felipe Meligeni.
