Escobar and Nedovyesov qualify for doubles final
- They defeated Mexico’s Reyes Varela and Argentina’s Andreozzi in the semifinals.
Los Cabos, February 24, 2024.- Mexican Miguel Angel Reyes Varela and Argentine Guido Andreozzi were eliminated in the semifinals of the doubles tournament of the Mifel Tennis Open by Telcel Oppo 2024 that ends this Saturday in Los Cabos.
Reyes Varela and Andreozzi lost 6-2, 6-3 to Gonzalo Escobar, from Ecuador, and Aleksandr Nedovyesov, from Kazakhstan, who will now play in the final, although they have had to wait to know their rivals.
It was a complicated match for Reyes Varela and Andreozzi, as they suffered two breaks and their rivals held serve four times in the first set for a 6-2 win.
In the second set, the Mexican and Argentinean took a 3-0 lead by defending their serve twice and breaking their rivals, but then came the reaction of Escobar and Nedovyesov, who broke three times for a 6-3 lead.
The second doubles semifinal with Norwegian Casper Ruud and William Blumberg of the United States against fourth-seeded Australians Max Purcell and Jordan Thompson will be played this Saturday after the singles final, which will feature Ruud and Thompson.
The winning pair of that final, after a break, will face Escobar and Nedovyesov in the final.
This decision was made by the ATP, together with the tournament organizers and the players because Ruud and Thompson advanced to the singles final and were still alive in the doubles.
