• The joy of children with a passion for tennis lit up the first night of the Mifel Tennis Open by Telcel Oppo with color.

Los Cabos, February 17, 2024 – After the success of the first neon-themed Kids Nite in 2023, the brightness of the colors in jerseys, balls and giant rackets, under a stage with black and ultraviolet light, returned to the main stadium of the Mifel Tennis Open by Telcel Oppo.

There was no one like the kids to add a huge dose of fun to the first night of tennis activity at the Cabo Sports Complex. The new Kids Nite tradition brought together for its second edition more than 100 children between the ages of 3 and 12 who were divided into groups that participated and enjoyed, according to their ages and abilities, playing tennis side by side with star professionals such as Alexander Zverev, Miomir Kecmanovic and Mexican doubles player Miguel Angel Reyes-Varela.

The activity was divided into four 20-minute periods with different players. First, Japan’s Taro Daniel took the court, along with Aleksander Vukic, Max Purcell and Alex Michelsen. They performed skill challenges with huge rackets and mini-tennis.

Players such as Nedovyesov, Escobar, Arnaldi and Borges were also invited, but to close, Zverev and Kecmanovic starred in the most difficult exercises for the young players of the future. This is how, year after year, great tennis players help fulfill the dream of dozens of children to play on a professional court.

The fun activity promotes the integration of boys and girls with the sport, it is an opportunity for the children who attend the tournament to get closer to the stars who come to Los Cabos, who give them advice, gifts and share their best training secrets.

With an agenda of activities planned for children and their parents, Mextenis and the Mifel Tennis Open by Telcel Oppo seek to integrate the community in sports initiation programs.

Los Cabos, February 17, 2024.- The eighth edition of the Mifel Tennis Open by Telcel Oppo, which is being played this week in Los Cabos, opens its activity this Saturday with the start of the qualifying tournament, which will award four tickets to the main draw.

Among the players who will be looking for one of the tickets to the main draw will be Italian Flavio Cobolli (1), American Alekasandar Kovacevic (2) and Japanese Yosuke Watanuki (3) and Shintaro Mochizuki (4), the four top seeds for the qualy.

In his first match, Cobolli will face Japan’s Sho Shimabukuro; Kovacevic will face Steve Johnson, both from the United States; Watanuki will face the only Mexican in the qualy, Alan Rubio Fierros and Mochizuki will face American Aidan Mayo.

The four remaining matches are Frenchman Terence Atmane against American Brandon Holt; another American Emilio Nava against Colombian Nicolas Mejia, Argentine Guido Andreozzi against American Zachary Svajda and Australian Marc Polmans will face American Nicolas Moreno de Alboran.

The Mifel Tennis Open by Telcel Oppo 2024 boasts in its eighth edition a main draw with stellar players such as German Alexander Zverev (No.6), Greek Stefanos Tsitsipas (No.10), 2023 finalist, Australian Alex de Miñaur (No.11) and Norwegian Casper Ruud (No.12).

The best ATP 250 tournament in Latin America will have a main singles draw of 28 players and 16 doubles pairs. The eighth edition is played a week before the Abierto Mexicano Telcel presented by HSBC in Acapulco.

Since its first edition in 2016, the tournament’s champions include Ivo Karlovic, Sam Querrey, Fabio Fognini, Diego Schwartzman, Cameron Norrie, Daniil Medvedev and Stefanos Tsitsipas.

Los Cabos, February 17, 2024.- The main draw for the eighth edition of the ATP 250 tournament was drawn at a ceremony headed by Geoffrey Fernandez, director of the Mifel Tennis Open by Telcel Oppo, with Jack Draper as a guest. 

The top seeds already know their possible path to the title in Los Cabos.

World No. 6 Alexander Zverev will make his debut as the top seed from the top of the draw and, like Greek Stefanos Tsitsipas, defending champion and current No. 10 in the ranking, awaits his opponent for the second round. The two could meet should they advance to the final.

One of the most striking first round matches is precisely that of young Briton Jack Draper (No. 51), who will face Australian Thanasi Kokkinakis (No. 79), who continues his quest to recover his best level and does not fail in his visits to Los Cabos.

Also Australian Alex de Miñaur (No. 11), third seed and finalist in 2023, has the goal of repeating his success in Mexican tournaments after winning Acapulco, but first he must wait for the winner of the duel between young 

American Alex Michelsen (No. 75) and Frenchman Constant Lestienne (No. 104). 

In the lower part of the draw, Norwegian Casper Ruud (No. 12) is the fourth seed of the Cabo Tennis Open and could meet in the third round with Japanese Taro Daniel (No. 63) or American Marcos Giron (No. 52), recent finalist at the Dallas Open. A match against Stefanos Tsitsipas is on the horizon.

Another Australian representative is Rinky Hijikata (No. 84), who will star in a complicated challenge against Miomir Kecmanovic (No. 40). Meanwhile, 2019 champion Diego Schwartzmann (No. 116), who received one of the invitations to the tournament, is waiting  for a first-round qualifying opponent. If he advances he could face Mexican Ernesto Escobedo, who also received a wild card and will be facing Australian Jordan Thompson (No. 42) to stay in the tournament.

Mexican junior Rodrigo Pacheco (No. 693), was drawn in the lower part of the draw and will have to face Australian Aleksander Vukic (No.69). Should he advance, he will face a tough challenge against Stefanos Tsitsipas.

Geoffrey Fernandez, director of the Mifel Tennis Open by Telcel Oppo, was excited about the novelty of the date, highlighted the new match schedules that the weather allows and confessed his interest in the first round matches “Having a back to back has been a challenge, but everything is going very well and we are very happy. We have a great draw, very competitive with three Top 10 and very even duels in the first round. Also remember that we have new things at the venue. We are looking forward to this edition and we are grateful to the media present,” said Geoffrey Fernandez, director of the Mifel Tennis Open by telcel Oppo.

The main draw activity starts on Monday, February 19 at 4:00 p.m. local time. On the Saturday and Sunday prior to that, the qualifying tournament will be held, which will distribute four tickets to the main draw.

Mexico City, January 23, 2024.- The Mifel Tennis Open by Telcel Oppo 2024 boasts for its eighth edition a more than complete player roster with four players in the Top 10 of the ATP ranking and one more ranked at number 11. Previously, Alexander Zverev (No.6 ), Stefanos Tsitsipas (No.7), Holger Rune (No.8), and Casper Ruud (No.11) had been announced and they were joined by 2023 finalist, Australian Alex de Miñaur (No. 10) to form one of the best draws in the tournament’s history.

The protagonists will meet from February 19 to 24 at the Cabo Sports Complex (CSC), where the Greek Tsitsipas will seek to defend his title, one of the 10 he boasts at the age of 25.

In addition, the Los Cabos ATP 250 will feature three star players. Dane Holger Rune, who at 20 years old is one of the young talents to follow in the circuit, Norwegian Casper Ruud, who has already played three Grand Slam finals, and German Alexander Zverev, who returned to the Top 10 and continues to climb positions.

For his part, Australian Alex de Miñaur, champion of Acapulco in 2023 and finalist in the last edition in Los Cabos, has started the season with a jump to the best ranking of his career. At 24 years old and with even titles, he makes his debut among the top ten of the circuit.

Another notable visitor is American Christopher Eubenaks (No.35), who had a surprising participation during Wimbledon 2023 by reaching the quarterfinals. He will be joined by his compatriots Mackenzie McDonald (No. 42) and J.J. Wolf (No. 57).

Also arriving in Los Cabos will be Australians Max Purcell (No. 42) and Jordan Thompson (No. 47), as well as British players Daniel Evans (No. 38) and Jack Draper (No. 55). Serbia’s Miomir Kecmanovic (No.60), who advanced to the fourth round of the Australian Open, will also be present, as well as Germany’s Dominik Koepker (No.62). The tournament has the best cut in 8 years of history.

“What I’m most excited about the eighth edition is having so much talent in players and the new date. The weather is wonderful and that will give a plus to the tournament, in addition to boasting four Top 10 players, not many 250 tournaments have that,” said tournament director Jose Antonio Fernandez.

“It is a huge challenge to organize the two tournaments for the first time in consecutive weeks”, he added.

The three invitations from the tournament are for Mexicans Rodrigo Pacheco, Ernesto Escobedo, and Argentine Diego Schwartzman, who with their wild cards will participate in the main draw of the tournament.
