Among the players who will be looking for one of the tickets to the main draw will be Italian Flavio Cobolli (1), American Alekasandar Kovacevic (2) and Japanese Yosuke Watanuki (3) and Shintaro Mochizuki (4), the four top seeds for the qualy.

In his first match, Cobolli will face Japan’s Sho Shimabukuro; Kovacevic will face Steve Johnson, both from the United States; Watanuki will face the only Mexican in the qualy, Alan Rubio Fierros and Mochizuki will face American Aidan Mayo.

The four remaining matches are Frenchman Terence Atmane against American Brandon Holt; another American Emilio Nava against Colombian Nicolas Mejia, Argentine Guido Andreozzi against American Zachary Svajda and Australian Marc Polmans will face American Nicolas Moreno de Alboran.

The Mifel Tennis Open by Telcel Oppo 2024 boasts in its eighth edition a main draw with stellar players such as German Alexander Zverev (No.6), Greek Stefanos Tsitsipas (No.10), 2023 finalist, Australian Alex de Miñaur (No.11) and Norwegian Casper Ruud (No.12).

The best ATP 250 tournament in Latin America will have a main singles draw of 28 players and 16 doubles pairs. The eighth edition is played a week before the Abierto Mexicano Telcel presented by HSBC in Acapulco.

Since its first edition in 2016, the tournament’s champions include Ivo Karlovic, Sam Querrey, Fabio Fognini, Diego Schwartzman, Cameron Norrie, Daniil Medvedev and Stefanos Tsitsipas.

MIFEL TENNIS OPEN 2024 Main Draw is ready

  • Top four seeds await opponent
  • Mexico’s Rodrigo Pacheco to face Aleksander Vukic

Los Cabos, February 17, 2024.- The main draw for the eighth edition of the ATP 250 tournament was drawn at a ceremony headed by Geoffrey Fernandez, director of the Mifel Tennis Open by Telcel Oppo, with Jack Draper as a guest.

The top seeds already know their possible path to the title in Los Cabos.

World No. 6 Alexander Zverev will make his debut as the top seed from the top of the draw and, like Greek Stefanos Tsitsipas, defending champion and current No. 10 in the ranking, awaits his opponent for the second round. The two could meet should they advance to the final.

One of the most striking first round matches is precisely that of young Briton Jack Draper (No. 51), who will face Australian Thanasi Kokkinakis (No. 79), who continues his quest to recover his best level and does not fail in his visits to Los Cabos.

Also Australian Alex de Miñaur (No. 11), third seed and finalist in 2023, has the goal of repeating his success in Mexican tournaments after winning Acapulco, but first he must wait for the winner of the duel between young

American Alex Michelsen (No. 75) and Frenchman Constant Lestienne (No. 104)

In the lower part of the draw, Norwegian Casper Ruud (No. 12) is the fourth seed of the Cabo Tennis Open and could meet in the third round with Japanese Taro Daniel (No. 63) or American Marcos Giron (No. 52), recent finalist at the Dallas Open. A match against Stefanos Tsitsipas is on the horizon.

Another Australian representative is Rinky Hijikata (No. 84), who will star in a complicated challenge against Miomir Kecmanovic (No. 40). Meanwhile, 2019 champion Diego Schwartzmann (No. 116), who received one of the invitations to the tournament, is waiting  for a first-round qualifying opponent. If he advances he could face Mexican Ernesto Escobedo, who also received a wild card and will be facing Australian Jordan Thompson (No. 42) to stay in the tournament.

Mexican junior Rodrigo Pacheco (No. 693), was drawn in the lower part of the draw and will have to face Australian Aleksander Vukic (No.69). Should he advance, he will face a tough challenge against Stefanos Tsitsipas.

Geoffrey Fernandez, director of the Mifel Tennis Open by Telcel Oppo, was excited about the novelty of the date, highlighted the new match schedules that the weather allows and confessed his interest in the first round matches “Having a back to back has been a challenge, but everything is going very well and we are very happy. We have a great draw, very competitive with three Top 10 and very even duels in the first round. Also remember that we have new things at the venue. We are looking forward to this edition and we are grateful to the media present,” said Geoffrey Fernandez, director of the Mifel Tennis Open by telcel Oppo.

The main draw activity starts on Monday, February 19 at 4:00 p.m. local time. On the Saturday and Sunday prior to that, the qualifying tournament will be held, which will distribute four tickets to the main draw.

ALEX DE MIÑAUR’S GREAT YEAR

  • The Australian tennis player’s record during 2023 was 46 wins and 26 losses, which allowed him to enter the Top 10 in January 2024
  • In 2023 Alex de Miñaur reached five finals, one of which he won.

Mexico City, February 15, 2024.- Tennis player Alex de Miñaur will arrive at the Abierto Mexicano Telcel presented by HSBC as the reigning champion after defeating American Tommy Paul last year in a match that was decided in three sets, but that was not the only final the Australian reached, as he was close to lifting four other championships throughout the season to consolidate the best of his career.

After Acapulco, the Australian reached the prelude to four titles, but did not have the same luck as in Mexico.

In June, the Australian reached the final of the Queen’s Club in London, a tournament that serves as preparation for Wimbledon, where he lost to the Spaniard Carlos Alcaraz after leaving the likes of Andy Murray, Diego Schwartzman, Adrian Mannarino and Holger Rune in the way.

In July he returned to Mexico to take part in the Mifel Tennis Open by Telcel Oppo 2023 in Los Cabos and played in the final match against Greek Stefanos Tsitsipas.

Weeks after Los Cabos, Alex de Miñaur reached the final of the Toronto Masters, but did not have a good match and was defeated by the Italian Jannik Sinner, thus adding his third lost final of the year.

Curiously, in November he faced Sinner again, but now in the Davis Cup Finals held in Malaga, Spain.

His record during 2023 was 46 wins and 26 losses, which allowed him to enter the Top 10 of the Pepperstone ATP Rankings in January and achieve the best position of his career by reaching the 10th step.

At the beginning of the 2024 season, the 24-year-old Australian player lost in the round of 16 of the Australian Open against German Alexander Zverev; however, in Acapulco he will try to defend his title and continue climbing positions in the ranking.

Four top 10s power the eighth edition of the MIFEL Tennis Open by TELCEL OPPO 2024

  • The 2023 finalist Alex de Miñaur joins Zverev, Tsitsipas and Rune
  • The eighth edition of the ATP 250 will be played for the first time a week before the Acapulco Open 500

Mexico City, January 23, 2024.- The Mifel Tennis Open by Telcel Oppo 2024 boasts for its eighth edition a more than complete player roster with four players in the Top 10 of the ATP ranking and one more ranked at number 11. Previously, Alexander Zverev (No.6 ), Stefanos Tsitsipas (No.7), Holger Rune (No.8), and Casper Ruud (No.11) had been announced and they were joined by 2023 finalist, Australian Alex de Miñaur (No. 10) to form one of the best draws in the tournament’s history.

The protagonists will meet from February 19 to 24 at the Cabo Sports Complex (CSC), where the Greek Tsitsipas will seek to defend his title, one of the 10 he boasts at the age of 25.

In addition, the Los Cabos ATP 250 will feature three star players. Dane Holger Rune, who at 20 years old is one of the young talents to follow in the circuit, Norwegian Casper Ruud, who has already played three Grand Slam finals, and German Alexander Zverev, who returned to the Top 10 and continues to climb positions.

For his part, Australian Alex de Miñaur, champion of Acapulco in 2023 and finalist in the last edition in Los Cabos, has started the season with a jump to the best ranking of his career. At 24 years old and with even titles, he makes his debut among the top ten of the circuit.

Another notable visitor is American Christopher Eubenaks (No.35), who had a surprising participation during Wimbledon 2023 by reaching the quarterfinals. He will be joined by his compatriots Mackenzie McDonald (No. 42) and J.J. Wolf (No. 57).

Also arriving in Los Cabos will be Australians Max Purcell (No. 42) and Jordan Thompson (No. 47), as well as British players Daniel Evans (No. 38) and Jack Draper (No. 55). Serbia’s Miomir Kecmanovic (No.60), who advanced to the fourth round of the Australian Open, will also be present, as well as Germany’s Dominik Koepker (No.62). The tournament has the best cut in 8 years of history.

“What I’m most excited about the eighth edition is having so much talent in players and the new date. The weather is wonderful and that will give a plus to the tournament, in addition to boasting four Top 10 players, not many 250 tournaments have that,” said tournament director Jose Antonio Fernandez.

“It is a huge challenge to organize the two tournaments for the first time in consecutive weeks”, he added.

The three invitations from the tournament are for Mexicans Rodrigo Pacheco, Ernesto Escobedo, and Argentine Diego Schwartzman, who with their wild cards will participate in the main draw of the tournament.

The Mifel Tennis Open by Telcel Oppo 2024, the best tournament of the category in Latin America, will have a 28-player singles main draw and 16 doubles pairs. The eighth edition of its position in the summer and is now played a week before the Abierto Mexicano Telcel presented by HSBC in Acapulco.

Mextenis organization and staff at both venues are ready to host the ATP 250 and 500 tournaments.

Mextenis expects more than 30,000 fans during the week of activities in Los Cabos. The multifunctional Cabo Sports Complex (CSC) boasts magnificent facilities and an exquisite architectural design with a 3,500-seat stadium, a 1,500-seat Grandstand, and three courts that can be adapted to accommodate up
to 800 spectators. It also has a special area for players.

Let’s dream of a spectacular week(e)nd in Los Cabos with Casper Ruud

  • The Norwegian tennis player shared his ‘Spotify Wrapped’ confirming his taste for the music of Canadian singer ‘The Weeknd’.
  • The tournaments in the American continent are going well for the Oslo-born player and he will be looking for a new title in the ATP circuit in Los Cabos.

Mexico City, December 1, 2023.- Casper Ruud’s passion for sports – not only tennis, but also golf – is complemented by his extreme taste for music, especially the music of Canadian singer and producer Abel Makkonen Tesfaye, better known as ‘The Weeknd’.

Each year, the Spotify platform shares a summary (Spotify Wrapped) of what

each user listens to most frequently over the past twelve months. In this 2023, what the Norwegian tennis player listened to the most was precisely The Weeknd.

On several occasions, the Oslo-born tennis player and winner of 10 titles in the ATP circuit, has shared his taste for music and has uploaded different videos to his social networks enjoying the concerts of the Canadian artist. Let’s hope that at the Mifel Tennis Open by Telcel Oppo 2024 we can witness a spectacular weekend with the best of his repertoire on the court of the Cabo Sports Complex.

Casper Ruud’s love for sports is not limited to tennis, a passion he inherited from his father and coach, Christian Ruud, who until before his son appeared

on the ATP circuit, was considered the best Norwegian tennis player in history.

When Christian Ruud retired, he started going to the golf courses and it was in those recreational times that Casper also took a liking to this sport to the extent that at the age of 14 he had to decide whether he would continue his sports career with a racket or with a golf club, we all know how this story ended.

Casper Ruud’s career has been meteoric since that August 2015 when he started scoring in the ATP ranking in the 1645th place, until his best position in his career, climbing up to the number 2 ATP ranking in December 2022.

The tournaments in the American continent are given to the Norwegian tennis player, since the first title in his

career he won in Buenos Aires (2020) and he did it again in 2022, he also won in San Diego, California in 2021 and hopefully in 2024 he will be among the contenders for the title of the Mifel Tennis Open by Telcel Oppo 2024.

Rune turns to Becker to boost his level in 2024

  • The young Dane is looking forward to Boris Becker as his coach for 2024.

Mexico City, November 22, 2023.- If a tennis legend like Boris Becker is interested in working with you in your 20s, you’re doing something right in your professional career. Holger Rune is one of the youngsters who overcame the status of tennis promise when he beat Novak Djokovic (Paris 2022) at the age of 19 in a Masters 1000 final and went from being outside the Top 100 to making his debut in the ATP Top 10 in less than a year. Three titles and two finals were key.

Now while he closes 2023 with a level recovery after sneaking into the Nitto ATP Finals, the reality is that with only one title there were signs that Rune was missing something in his development and teamwork. The answer could be six-time Grand Slam winner Boris Becker of Germany, who has known success since he was a teenager after he became the youngest Wimbledon winner at the age of 17 in 1985.

The two began a trial period in October and have now confirmed their coach-player alliance for the 2024 season. Previously Rune was the pupil of Patrick Mouratoglou since 2016, former coach of Serena Williams, but they ended their relationship in September. Intense on court and with infinite potential, his entourage agrees, the Dane’s personality and mentality can take him far, not for nothing Becker has stated that they will look for his best version. The 55-year-old German coached Djokovic between 2013 and 2016, when he conquered six of his 24 Grand Slams.

On his own style, Rune stated “If everyone was the same, it would be a bit boring.” His rapid rise was perhaps somewhat overshadowed by the precocious success of Carlos Alcaraz, with whom he has an age difference of just six days, but Rune is motivated by such a rivalry in the making “I hope to be like Roger and Rafa. That’s what we’re looking for, to be the best players of all time and the best players we can be.” Holger Rune will debut at the Mifel Tennis Open by Telcel Oppo with a great chance.

2023: The year Zverev pushed his own limits.

  • The German tennis player recovered from an ankle injury and is playing in the ATP Finals.
  • During his recovery, “Sascha” took the opportunity to create his Foundation and encourage children suffering from diabetes to overcome their own limits.

Mexico City, November 15, 2023 – There is no doubt that Alexander Zverev is a star on the court, with 21 titles on the ATP circuit at the age of 26; however, he also has an altruistic facet.

In August 2022, the Hamburg-born tennis player created his foundation to support children suffering from type 1 diabetes and prevent more people from being diagnosed with type 2 diabetes, driven mainly because “Sascha” himself has suffered from this disease (type 1 diabetes) since he was 4 years old.

Tuesday, November 14 marked World Diabetes Day, a date established since 1991 by the World Health Organization (WHO), and to remember this date the German tennis player uploaded a video to his Instagram account sending a motivational message for people who have been diagnosed with this condition to break their own limits and obstacles to achieve their dreams.

If we are talking about complex moments, this 2023 has not been easy for Zverev in the sporting arena, as an ankle injury kept him out of the circuit for almost seven months. After recovering, he returned to the Top 10 of the ranking and was able to compete in the ATP Finals in Turin, Italy, at the end of the year.

Throughout this 2023, the German tennis player overcame his injury and overcame his own limits, as the motto of his foundation says: “The only limit is the one you set for yourself”.

He won two tournaments that helped him climb up the rankings and regain his rhythm of play, the first one in his hometown in Hamburg during the summer, and the second title he won in Chengdu, China last September.

Surely in the Mifel Tennis Open by Telcel Oppo 2023 we will see a “Sascha” eager to add more titles and overcoming his own limits on the court, as well as promoting his initiatives with his Alexander Zverev Foundation.

Tsitsipas does not renounce his father

  • The Greek changed coaches last year, but decided to return to his father Apostolos Tsitsipas as his coach.
  • The 2023 Los Cabos champion will return to the ATP 250 to defend his title.

Mexico City, November 9, 2023.- In Mexico we say that “blood calls” when family ties are strengthened and endure despite adversity. This popular saying or Mexican proverb applies very well to what Stefanos Tsitsipas experienced in recent months after concluding the relationship with his father as his coach, starting a new stage with Mark Philippoussis as his coach and weeks later returning to his father Apostolos Tsitsipas.

The father-son bond has been successful since the beginning of his career. At his side, the Greek has managed to win 10 titles, including two championships at the Monte-Carlo Masters 1000 (2020 and 2021) and lifted in 2019 the ATP Finals title in London.

The working relationship between Stafanos and Apostolos had a break at the beginning of 2023, but the Greek tennis player, current champion of the Mifel Tennis Open by Telcel Oppo, failed to adapt to the style and training program of Australian Mark Philippoussis, so he decided to return to his “origins”.

Just at the Paris Masters 1000, Stafanos Tsitsipas reached 300 career victories, no small feat for a 25-year-

old tennis player. To reach this figure, he owes much to the experience and support of his father from the stands as coach.

Since the beginning of his career as a professional in 2016, Tsitsipas had a rapid and sustained rise in the ATP rankings, on October 23, 2017 he entered the Top 100 of the best players in the world and in less than a year (in October 2018) he was already in the group of the best 20 tennis players on the planet.

Undoubtedly, having the Greek again in Mexican lands will be a show for the fans that will gather in February in Los Cabos and, what better, than accompanied by his father and mentor in his sporting career.

MIFEL TENNIS OPEN BY TELCEL OPPO 2024, confirms four Top 10 players for its eighth edition

  • Rune, Tsitsipas, Ruud, and Zverev have confirmed their participation in the eighth edition of the tournament in Los Cabos.
  • The ATP 250 event will take place from February 19th to 24th, 2024, one week before the Abierto Mexicano de Tenis in Acapulco.

Mexico City, September 26, 2023 – Five months before the Mexican Back to Back’s debut, starting with the eighth edition of the Mifel Tennis Open by Telcel Oppo, to be held between February 19 and 24, 2024, Mextenis has confirmed the participation of four players currently ranked in the ATP Top 10. Holger Rune (No.4), Stefanos Tsitsipas (No.5), Casper Ruud (No.9), and Alexander Zverev (No.10) are the stars of a lineup that promises to be legendary for an ATP 250 event.

The Greek player Stefanos Tsitsipas will return to the Cabo Sports Complex (CSC) to defend his 2023 title, one of the ten titles he boasts at just 25 years old. On the other hand, Los Cabos will host three debutants. Danish player Holger Rune, who achieved his highest ranking in August of this year and currently holds the No. 4 spot in the world, is one of the young promises to watch on the circuit, even mentioned by the legend Roger Federer. At 20 years old, Rune, who made his professional debut in 2020, already has four titles, including a Masters 1000 in Paris.

Also, Norwegian player Casper Ruud, currently No. 9 but who reached No. 2 a year ago, will debut at the Mifel Tennis Open by Telcel Oppo. At 24 years old, he has 10 ATP titles and has competed in three Grand Slam finals, two of them at Roland Garros, his favorite surface. Lastly, there is the German Alexander Zverev, who has returned to the Top 10 after a long injury recovery and will finally make his debut in a tournament in a destination he is already familiar with. Sascha also reached the second spot in the rankings in 2022. He has accumulated 20 titles at 26 years old and also won Olympic gold in Tokyo.

“Undoubtedly, we will have one of the best lineups in the tournament’s history. This event has been consolidating over the years, and more and more players want to come and experience it and compete in Los Cabos. We are very excited about our new date; it marks a new era for the organization for Mextenis, and we hope it will be excellent for the fans. We are confident that it will benefit everyone,” commented the tournament director, José Antonio Fernández.

The eighth edition will be memorable for fans as, for the first time, the Mifel Tennis Open by Telcel Oppo is being held in February, leaving the summer behind. This adjustment in the calendar benefits both the fans and the tournament’s organization, and, of course, the players who will have more comfortable logistics for the two major ATP tennis events in Mexico.

The Cabo Sports Complex (CSC) is a multifunctional sports complex with magnificent facilities and exquisite architectural design, built in collaboration between Mextenis and Olarena. Constructed on an area of more than 4 hectares, it features a stadium with a capacity for 3,500 fans, a Grandstand for 1,500 people, and three courts that can be adapted to accommodate up to 800 spectators, in addition to a special area for the players. Tickets for the eighth edition are already on sale.

The Los Cabos ATP 250 will have a main singles draw of 28 players and 16 doubles pairs.

New champion in Los Cabos: Stefanos Tsitsipas

  • The Greek will move up one place in the rankings after winning the 250 title in Los Cabos.
  • In his second final in Mexico, he adds his tenth title and first of the 2023 season.

Los Cabos, August 5, 2023.- It was a dream final at the MIfel Tennis Open by Telcel Oppo between top seed Stefanos Tsitsipas and Australian Alex de Miñaur, the last champion in Acapulco. In one hour and 27 minutes, the Greek triumphed in his second final on Mexican soil and won 6-3, 6-4 to win his tenth title.

It was the tenth meeting between the two and for the first time in his career Tsitsipas has a 10-0 record against the same opponent. De Miñaur ended his streak of 9 consecutive wins in Mexico. Now Stefanos, who will turn 25 on August 12, will climb to No. 4 in the ATP rankings after his first title of 2023 after starting the season as the star of the Australian Open. The Greek had not been crowned champion since Majorca 2022, ending a 10-month drought.

“The trophy will have a special place in my house. I’ll take the positives from the week, I think I had good matches and it’s the start. We experienced some good tennis, good competition. I’m happy to leave with the trophy and the title” he said in conference after his final.

Six-time Grand Slam semifinalist and with such success with the Mexican public, Tsitsipas confirmed his presence for the February 2024 back to back, so his presence, subject to injuries, is guaranteed in Los Cabos and Acapulco.

Alex de Miñaur was close to his eighth title and a double in Mexico, but lost his serve twice in each set to fall to the Greek, who closed his participation in the Cabo Tennis Open with 28 aces.

Tsitsipas was dominant in his four matches played in Los Cabos and in the end lifted the title. He assures that he will always prioritize coming to Mexico over Washington because of the deal. At the end he concluded joking that what he longs for the most is a lemon ice cream that he tasted in Acapulco and that he will seek this year to surpass the ranking of his girlfriend Paula Badosa who became second in the world.
